News and Notes (9/13): Jennings, Jackson, Maclin, Collie and more

A few quick hitters as we wait for practice reports to trickle in this afternoon:

Greg Jennings is considered a game-time decision for tonight’s game against the Bears but don’t expect to see him. The Packers’ depth chart is too deep with viable receiving options to risk that Jennings re-aggravates his injury and misses an extended period of time. Fantasy owners should look elsewhere this week, even if Jennings is on the active roster. Adam Schefter says Charles Tillman is expected to play tonight.

Fred Jackson vows to be back in four weeks, despite earlier reports that the Bills’ medical staff will need another 7-10 days to get a better handle on his knee injury. Four weeks isn’t an impossible timetable to hit for a mid-grade LCL strain, but it’s likely that Jackson’s injury is more severe (even if it now looks less likely that the PLC region is involved). Assuming his recovery progresses without any unexpected stability issues, don’t expect to see Jackson back until after the Bills’ Week 8 bye.

Don’t be concerned that Ryan Mathews has yet to be cleared for contact. Six weeks was always the most likely recovery estimate for Mathews. Conditioning will not be a major issue for Mathews and if he’s deemed ready for contact early next week, he’ll be in the lineup taking his regular workload in Week 3.

I still think the circumstances following Austin Collie’s full practice last Wednesday are odd, but it’s a good sign that he was able to fully practice again yesterday. Assuming he’s listed as a full participant today, we can be fairly certain that last week’s absence was more precautionary than evidence of recurring mild neurologic symptoms.

Kenny Britt will reportedly be available for 20-30 snaps this week. Unlike the Adrian Peterson, Trent Richardson and Marshawn Lynch situations, the Titans are unlikely to deviate from that plan no matter how good Britt looks early. A known risk for re-conditioning muscle strain injury, Britt will almost certainly see time in high leverage situations only.

Jeremy Maclin missed practice again today and is limited by a hip flexor strain and hip pointer. There’s still a good chance he’ll play this weekend, though he may be forced out of the game at times if the hip pointer flares up. We’ll have more information after Friday’s practice. DeSean Jackson also missed practice Thursday with a hamstring strain after fully practicing yesterday. A midweek muscle strain is a tough injury to recover from in time to play a Sunday game. It’s possible that Jackson is more doubtful than Maclin right now.

Colin McCarthy almost certainly has a high ankle sprain. The mechanism looked right on replay, though mild, and Mike Munchak all but confirmed the diagnosis without specifically saying the words yesterday. Expect McCarthy to miss at least one week, but hopefully not more than two.

Denarius Moore looks ready to return and the extra week of rest and rehab should decrease the chances that he suffers a second setback in his first game back. Expect the Giants to continue to treat Hakeem Nicks conservatively during early week practices, but there’s little concern that he’ll miss time in Week 2. Steve Johnson sounds much more positive about his groin injury this week, but it’s still something that could limit him in coming weeks. The circumstances around Nate Washington and Pierre Garcon are more murky. Garcon seems less likely to play than Washington.

FBG Insiders can find this week’s Second Opinion feature here and we’ll discuss many of these situations in greater depth during tonight’s Audible live podcast at 1000 ET.
